A Fair to Remember: How We Turned Fun into Funds for Our School
Last spring, I found myself standing in the middle of our elementary school gym, staring at a long list of “to-dos” and wondering how we were going to pull off our biggest school fair yet.
As chair of the parent committee, I wanted this year to feel bigger, brighter, and more exciting than ever before. We needed something that would draw families in, keep them smiling, and most importantly, help us raise meaningful funds for the school.
That’s when we ordered our supplies from carnivalcanada.com.
From the moment the boxes arrived, I knew we had made the right decision.
The Cotton Candy Machine: Pure Magic
If there was one undisputed star of the fair, it was the cotton candy machine. The moment we turned it on and those first wisps of pink sugar started spinning into fluffy clouds, a crowd formed instantly.
Kids watched wide-eyed as volunteers twirled cones into giant puffs of cotton candy. Parents couldn’t resist either—more than a few admitted they were reliving their own childhood memories. The sweet smell drifted across the schoolyard, and I truly believe it doubled our foot traffic.
We sold out of our first batch in record time and had to open more supplies halfway through the event. It wasn’t just a treat—it was an experience.
Popcorn That Kept Everyone Coming Back
Right beside the cotton candy station was our popcorn setup, and it was just as popular. The steady popping sound added to the carnival atmosphere, and the fresh, buttery aroma brought people over from across the yard.
Popcorn turned out to be the perfect complement to our main food station, where volunteers were grilling burgers and hot dogs nonstop. Families loved being able to grab a full meal and then add a classic fair snack on the side.
We priced everything affordably but strategically, and the combination worked beautifully. By the end of the day, the food booths alone had exceeded our fundraising goals.
The Raffle That Made a Real Difference
One of the smartest investments we made was the acrylic raffle drum and tickets. It looked professional, eye-catching, and official, far more exciting than the old cardboard box we had used in previous years.
The clear drum let everyone see the tickets piling up inside, which actually encouraged more participation. People love seeing momentum build.
We raffled off donated gift baskets, local business gift cards, and even a bike. Families eagerly lined up to buy tickets, and thanks to how organized and visible everything looked, sales were stronger than ever before.
That raffle alone helped us raise a significant portion of the funds we needed for new library books and playground improvements.
More Than Just Fundraising
What I didn’t expect was how much the right equipment would change the overall energy of the day. The cotton candy machine, popcorn maker, and raffle drum didn’t just help us raise money—they helped us create a true carnival atmosphere.
There was laughter everywhere. Teachers were chatting with parents. Kids were running between game stations with sticky fingers and big smiles.
By the end of the fair, as we packed everything away (tired but thrilled), we tallied the numbers and realized we had surpassed our fundraising goal.
But more importantly, we had created a memory that our school community will talk about for years.
If you’re planning a school fair, I can honestly say: having the right supplies makes all the difference. For us, it turned a simple fundraiser into an unforgettable celebration.
And I already can’t wait to start planning next year.
